You need to buy a wireless router and a wireless card for the kids computer. The wireless router is connected to your computer and to the modem. If you don't have a UPS get an cheap ($40) one for the equipment including the router and modem (and what else you wish), otherwise you will go crazy from little power glitches as the modem has to come up then the router.
The modem should connect to the internet automatically. You need to setup a network (like MSHOME, easy under XP, who knows under Vista) and tell both computers you are connecting to the internet over a network or via another computer. Once you have done this you will also be able to share computers and setup which areas of each you wish to share.

Buy a wireless router such as the LinkSys WRT-54G. You will install it between the cable modem and your computer. Set up the kids computer with a wireless card and set it up to connect to the WRT-54G. You will then be sharing the internet connection. As a bonus you can also set up file sharing between the two systems.
D-Link and other manufacturers make similar wireless routers and wireless cards, LinkSys is used only as an example.
Below are some links you might find useful. The first is an article on home networking. The second is a multimedia presentation by LinkSys explaining home networking.

Running an Ethernet Cable from your Comcast Modem they furnish to the WAN Port on a Multiport ROUTER.
this would allow you to connect any additional computers to the ports (LAN PORTS) on the Router you purchase.
Many users opt to purchase Multi port Wireless Routers this enables you the option of wireless connections on any computer equipped with wireless cards and to Hardwire any other computers in the multible ports on the router you purchase. This will enable you to connect as many computers as need be, all concurently all at the same time.

It is quite simple actually. Visit your local electronics store (IE: Best Buy, Circuit City) and purchase a wireless router and a wireless card for the extra computer.
Install the card and the router. So the path should be this:
Modem->Wireless Router->Original computer
\--->Extra PC via wireless.
It shouldn't run you over $80 at most and then new computers only require another wireless card.

You need to buy a router and a Wireless USB 2.0 adapter to connect to the other computer. You want to make sure you have a virus program on both machines to protect them from viruses. It's easy to do. I suggest you buy a Wireless Linksys Router and adapter. Just follow the instructions and it should work.
Have fun.
