would it be normal after these occasions to be kind of "out of it" for several days or even a week, feeling confused, unable to think, concentrate, remember, basically as though you have lost your intelligence and ability to think rationally?

Yes, it is like being in shock. You shouldn't expect to be treated like that and just go about business as usual. You are normal. Mistreated and normal.

I would think about whether the words said to me were true. If so, maybe I can change and improve, and if not, then that person saying these hurtful things has the problem. I used to feel really bad about myself when I get verbally abused but when I got older I have more confidence and am aware of how shitty people can be. Some people like to criticize others to make themselves feel better and that's messed up.

Yes, that has happened to me. However, if it doesn't get better within another day or two, be sure to seek medical assistance. You could be suffering with more than the affects of mental/verbal abuse.

Be better :)

mental and verbal abuse have such vague definitions. could you be more specific? well for this im going to assume that you were screamed at for hours and deprived of sleep. yeah i guess.
