OK, this is probably WAY controversal.
I saw on the internet an article about a "beauty contest" being held at a nudist camp. They were judging - all females - in 4 catagories, based on age. None over age 30... Youngest group was not yet celebrating teenage, if you get my drift..

One one hand, I read that women want to stop being looked at as "sex objects," and being more accepted in society, and on another hand, I read that people who frequent nudist camps, do so "because everyone is equal."

What kind of "equal" or "acceptance" is being created when they have "beauty contests?"

I am not sure if the word "double standard" is appropriate here, but this does make me wonder....

OK, please try to control the anger. I would like to hear your calm and honest opinions.

I really don't care as long as they are women who are old enough to make their own decisions (18). A child has no business being nude in front of others (other than a doctor or parents) and has much less business bey judged. I am sure this falls under some sort of child sexual abuse.

However, as far as the "beauty contests" go in general. I have no problem with them as long as its something the child enjoys. Its the same way I feel about sports and other activities or clubs for children. The child's desires come first and they should never be forced to do something, unless they are over the age of 12. Then they can be forced to finish the season, semester, month of lessons, etc. To teach them responsibility of obligations.

I think beauty contests are dumb, personally, but I'm not going to tell another woman how to deal with her own body. These days they give away college scholarships and I am certainly more in favor of someone wearing a ball gown to get some education money rather than stripping to pay for college (I knew someone who did that, and she was a big feminist who had justified it in her own mind somehow...I didn't get it but again, it's not my life).

It's worth noting that the Miss America pageant keeps losing money and once again this year a network is passing on it (and not even a major one like ABC or NBC, but Country Music Television) because it doesn't get enough audience...so the tradition may well be dying out.

As for your nudist colony, I don't understand that AT ALL. Being a nudist would theoretically make one neutral in terms of judging anyone on their body...but we are sexual creatures and female beauty is always going to be alluring on some level. Yeah, it makes you want to say "double standard" but that's not quite it...more like "hypocrisy." Also children being involved is pretty gross, as other posters have aptly noted.

This is NOT something nudists do. Their philosophy is the polar opposite to what you suggest, and that's the only 'controversial' thing about your post.

For general naturalist/nudist information and links see:
http://cgd.best.vwh.net/home/naturism/nlink01.htm

I've shown you mine, now you show me yours. While we wait (*taps toes impatiently knowing full well the poster made it up*):

'The meanings of naturism and nudism are very similar, and refer to a cultural and political movement practising, advocating and defending social nudity in private and public spaces. [1] Several other terms ("social nudity" as well as "public nudity", and recently: "clothes-free") have been proposed as a replacement of these terms, but none has yet found the same wide-spread acceptance as the older terms naturism and nudism. [2]

The movement includes a large range of variants including "naturism", "nudism", "Freikörperkultur (FKK)", the "free beach movement" as well as generalized "public lands/public nudity" advocacy. While there is a large amount of shared history and common themes, issues and philosophy, differences between these separate movements are sometimes contentious. The usage of these terms varies geographically; people in the US often prefer the term nudism, while people in Europe more often than not refer to themselves as naturists.[1] The predominant movement centers on established, family-friendly, non-sexualized variations. The inclusion of the "topfree equality" movement within this movement is under debate. Use of the word "clothes free" has also been used when preceding other words as a descriptive term, some arguing that it allows more inclusion of both the naturist and nudist philosophy, which are arguably similar in many regards.[2]

The movement also works in parallel to and sometimes influences and is influenced by popular culture as well as individuals and activists (see clothes free people) as well as organizations (see clothes free organizations)."

I think that people who are part of nudist colonies as well as people who attend nudist beaches or anywhere else aren't after the same life that Adam and Eve had in the Garden of Eden before they sinned and discovered they were naked. Their life then was totally pure and exempt from any and all things relative to 'sex' in the first place. They were just two people God had created to spend life together. The reality of 'sex' and its components came after they sinned and their eyes were opened to its reality and implications. That is why they suddenly realized that they were naked and it says they were also ashamed so they found leaves to cover themselves with. Because their's was a perfect world then it also had the perfect temperatures so man and woman didn't need clothes either. Since then, man and woman have spent an eternity trying to figure out what they have lost and have tried to regain that 'perfect reality' and the world has also felt the pangs of the original sin and also has spent its existence in turmoil with temperature changes and fits of horrific weather calamities. Clothes and the necessities of shelter became a necessity. Not only that, the being that caused them to sin in the first place, namely Lucifer, now known as Satan with a nickname of the devil, is still roaming arounnd seeking those he may devour. And he is succeeding. Thus, we have a distorted vision and reality that is being enouraged by Satan, and does it so well, that all those who fall for his lies, fall into a trap of no return without even knowing that they have fallen into it. They think they have found Utopia, which is the perfect society when in fact, they have only fallen deeper into the clutches of Satan and his domain. In seeking this Utopia, they have tried all kinds of things, each inventing his or her own idea of what really is Utopia and how they can achieve it. Adam and Eve became lost after they sinned. That was because their spiritual side of them was totally alienated from God who was so pure. Before the sin they were just as pure because they were made in God's image. After the sin, they lost their pure spirit because it was replaced with a sinful one. Man and women every since has been trying to get it back. But they are seeking it with their unpure spirit so they never find it and settle for second best or the best that they can come up with. Everyone out there knows that there is some kind of supernatural world and they all are seeking it in their own way. Unfortunately, there is only one way to get it. When you find that 'way' it all makes sense and everything falls into the correct place for you in your life. That way is Jesus. He makes the way where there is no way. When you find him, you don't need all these other 'things' in your life that take up time and give you 'highs'. He becomes the only 'high' you need or want in your life. Time will tell, won't it, when the King of kings returns to Judge the living and the dead?

The way I see it, every day is a beauty contest.

This nudist camp thing--well, they're already walking around nude, so what difference does being nude on a stage make? And what do they do--put on swimsuits? Evening gowns? It takes all kinds....

My opinion is that "beauty contests" objectify women. That does nothing to help the cause of equality.
