Pregnant or not, your case is not unique. Many people suffer from what is simply called " Work Related Sickness". It's proven that jobs that cause stress, depression and tiredness can eventually escalate into a serious illness. You have to remember that your hormones are already out of whack and the conditions on the job can only compound that. If you wait unitl a week or so before delivery, the depression you experience from the job will only enhance the depression from post partum syndrome that you may experience after childbirth. The worst case I know of was where a woman threw herself from an 8 story window in Chicago. A year is a long time. You may discover that by the time you would have to return to work, that a more pleasant and lucrative opportunity has come along. Regardless, it is just a job, and that should never be considered more important than your physical health and the health of your child. Any employer will tell you that your greatest asset to them is your health because if you get seriously ill, you won't be there to work anyway. If you take your leave now,. that will still give you about 7 months with your child. Like I said, a lot can happen between now and then. You may discover that you won't have to return to that job. God Bless and have a smooth delivery.

Can you do any work at home? Vacations days, sick days etc.?
I would probably try to make it longer so I had more time with the baby. But stress can cause early labor not good either. If you could hold on try to get a little further. Give yourself goals to not take off just yet. 12 weeks and then you take 1 sick day (make it Friday or Monday) etc.

Make sure you leave for lunch and take all your breaks. Get outta that office even just for a short walk to reduce stress. Say you left something in your car if you have to. Ask Dr. to write a note you need more bathroom breaks (if they do not let you go often-(even if it is just a mental health timeout) stating fear/concern of bladder infections if you do not go often enough. Whatever you have to do.

If you have to leave before birth and you only get one year talk to HR after birth close to end of that year to see about Family Medical Leave Act for more time. If you get fired before you can look into medical disabilities act violation and say you suspect you were fired because you were pregnant. Depends if they and it is worth your time. Ultimately, stick with it and you may decide once that year is up and baby is well on his/her way you will be looking for a better job and leaving them. Kids change your life and your priorities you spend less time dealing with S#$^ unless it is for your kid.
Good luck

I was in the same situation!

If you need the money I would say to just suck it up and do the best you can for as long as you can. You've made it this far!!! You will never regret the extra time with your baby and once you get through the next 18-20 weeks you'll be happy you stuck it out.

It sucks, I know. If you can afford to take off now and then stay off for that full year, I would do that, but it sounds like maybe that's not an option for you!

wow that is a tough one. i know you don't like you job but is there anyway that you could make it a little easier to go to. you could take the leave now but just remember that is less time with your baby. i know how hard that can be. I'm in a similar situation but with school. Depending on what type of job you have maybe you can take some stuff home with you unstead of staying at the office all day. talk to your boss and see what can be arranged. while you have the year off you may want to look for a new job since you are so unhappy at this one. no one should be unhappy at their job.

Well if its stressing you out a lot then its not healthy for you and the baby so I would take of now. It you think you can handle the stress then wait but whatever you do make sure you do what you think is best for your baby. Good luck!

ask if you can cut your hours (keep enough to maintain your health ins!!) or move to a less stressful position. When I was pregnant and working I moved from a sales position (high stress , high demand, annoying boss) to being a part time receptionist. It made my pregnancy go alot smoother, and I was able to work up until 4 weeks before my duedate. Good luck, and remember, its all uphill from here!!!!

hey watch out that's not a job that an abuse don't let them quit being mother is stress full too but it has its rewards you should also remember that if you feel bad, stressed, depressed, or worried the baby feels it and its bad for him you can have problems. in conclusion your work is not worth it you and your baby are so in my opinion you should quit and find a new one i know its hard but its healthier.
wish you luck

You need the money so suck it up. It's unfortunate you remained in this job that you so hate, but now that you are there, stick with it.
