This bottle is brown and really old. It says 'fill to the line" but you have to turn the bottle upside down to read it. It doesn't have any mL markings or anything like that either.

Hmmm, a good mystery. It could be a motor oil bottle and that might explain why it's printed upside down.

You didn't say how big it was but this sounds like you might have an old medicine bottle. They were brown to keep light from affecting the medicine. It appears that a manufacturer would make the bottles and different companies would buy them and put their product inside.

maybe it had thick or sticky stuff. so turning it upside down will make it easier to use the material

They probably recycled it and accidently placed the paper wrong. Or maybe it's supposed to be like that.
