In accord to Brazilian Institute of Statistics (IBGE), we are:
* 53.7% white
* 38.5% mixed race
* 6.2% black
* 0.5% Asian
* 0.4% Amerindian
* 0.7% unspecified
Moreover, of these 53.7 % whites, most are portuguese, too many are italians, a lot are germans, other are jews and arabs, some russian, polishes or ukranian, besides the armenians, serbians, croatians, dutches, spanishes and a few other etnias. Many others, are mixed european-european whites.
The asians are in Paraná and São Paulo - where is the greatest concentration of japanese immigants and descendants outside Japan.
Black are very common in Rio and São Paulo, but, no other state have a so great presence of blacks as Bahia have. Bahia is the most black state, but, there are millions of whites there, of course.
Brazil have the greatest population of black outside Africa.
Then, brazilians may be whites, mixed or blacks. But, there's a classification that I hate: "latinos".
Brazilians arenot "latinos" because, brazilian people was formed of many etnic groups from Europe, native (South) americans and blacks.
May a guy with jewish, arab, greek, russian polish or german name be called latino? It's a dullness. Only stupid people can use this term for brazilians.
Some very, very stupid persosn think: "brazilians are latinos. Latinos are dark skinned. Then, brazilians are brown!".
There's no hope for these idiots (probably they will die in their ignorance), but, there's true information for people who wants to know more about us.
Watching TV News, for example, you can see this observing the names of the interviewed reporters and (in any place, since official cabinets, until, in the streets, shopping centers, in beaches, the schools and university, etc).
Despite this, it does not have the minimum ethnic tension between Brazilians.
I recomend, always, to find brazilians in the online communities. The best place to find brazilians is www.orkut.com a site for relationship.
See orkut.com. It's nice and similar to myspace.com, but with a lot of brazilians.
I recommend (strongly) that you see these communities.
Note that they are not only a little bit of brazilians, but dozens of thousands.
PS. joeluw: dark brow, is the color of the bullshit that you learnt in your bad elementary and high school, if you studied someday...
See below how many "dark brown", moron!

Brazil has co-mingling among the Native Americans, Africans and Portuguese (and other ethnicities) population resulted in a large mixed race ethnic group that is present today. Whites still number a little over fifty percent of the population, but the multi-racial group is not far behind. The remaining population is a mix of blacks, Asians and other ethnic backgrounds.
Keep in mind too that these demographics for Brazil are based mostly on skin color. There are quite a few people who look white but have a healthy mix of Indian and even African blood running through their veins. Considering the ethnic mix of the population, Brazil does not really have any racial problems. Instead of judging people by their skin color, they judge by their social class.

Does it really matters the color of homebody's skin,we are all human, I'm glad that somebody finally realize that Brazilian are not LATINOS, so Brazilian a a mix of Portuguese , Indians, and everything you can find there, I'm a mix of African, french, Italian, Indians, a beautiful shade of light brown, but I never care for that and upset me living in this wonder full country the USA, that people care so much for the color of the skin , and that I have to be care full what I'm going to say, in Brazil you have songs about the beauty of the Africans,big lips, nappy hair and that does not offend nobody
So we can on all shades from the white as snow to the black dark as night, one of my favorites uncles is dark as night, with beautiful white teeth, and big libs, the other one white as snow, with green eyes
