I agree. the hall of fame should be all about how he played and what he accomplished as a player. not what he did as a coach. he should be in the HOF!!!!

The Hall of Fame has long taken a stance against those that attempt to ruin the integrity of the games. Pete screwed up his HoF chances, no one else.
Your statement "Put him on during his eligibility" fails to acknowledge that Pete has NO eligibility.
And lastly, if you go to Baseball's Hall of Fame & Museum in Cooperstown you WILL see exhibits honoring the on-field accomplishments of Pete Rose. That gives fans what they want while preserving the dignity of The Game itself.

if 75% of the writers are willing to write him in as a candidate, then maybe I'll go along with it...but there's a little thing called the character clause...and it says that Pete Rose doesn't deserve to be voted into the HOF. 16 years of lies and then sudden contrition as soon as the idea of induction into the HOF is brought up says that Pete Rose doesn't deserve to be voted in...same reason that Barry Bonds shouldn't be inducted to the Hall of Fame...zero contrition, a size-9 head, bloated offensive totals (both of the last two after age 35, mind you), and damage to his knees consistent with what doctors have said for years that 'roids do to your body...oh yeah, and the fact that he's just an a*shole around other people.
Best part is, the Hall is independent of baseball, which means it doesn't have to listen to you or anyone else...and for that matter, it has no more reason to listen to me than it does to listen to you.

Disagree. If "shoeless" Joe can't be inducted and it's almost a hundred years since the black sox scandal, then neither can Rose. Anyways, the bar should be set high, or we are going to have a problem by filling the hall up with the medically enhanced scumbags that are ruining baseball currently.
So no!

Pete Rose deserves every bit of neglect. Every one knows he is one of the best players of all time, but come on, it's like Diego Maradona and now, Michael Vick. They did some stupid stuff and their whole image turned upside down. Pete Rose will never be in the hall of fame, let alone on the ballot, he deserves it though ( as a player ) but not as human being.

I totally agree. The greatest hitter of all time deserves to be given a chance to be in the hall of fame. He served his time in prison, so give him a chance.
Big Ed. Pete Rose NEVER bet against the Reds, EVER!

Pete has served his pentance. Baseball is such a time-honored tradition with all of it's records holding some kind of hallowed reverance that it would be blasphemy not to put the all-time hits king in. Seriously, noone is going to touch his record not Ichiro, Jeter or anybody else. You know Barry is going to get in one day. Pete's day needs to be today. He's suffered for lying long enough. Forgive him for something we probably do more than we all realize.

What with being an admitted chronic-repeating rulebreaker, a serial liar, and an inveterate gambling addict, Rose has been treated MORE than fairly.
Help is his for the asking, and that's the first step he needs to take. He won't ask, he won't take that step. His situation is entirely up to him to address.
Rose apologists and supporters continue to have far more regard for his career than Rose himself did.

I think he should be kept out. Betting against his own team is wrong. Same goes for Barry Bonds, using Steroids and then Flat out denying it should be enough to keep him out. Also, Despite the fact he has the home run record the facte he used steroids to accomplish that shows that he has tainted the reputation of the sport.

Ask a question. do not editorialize........... To respond to your editorial, absolutely NOT. The name of the institution is the Hall of FAME, not the Hall of Shame. He only avoided going to jail because he plea bargained himself out of jail time and admitted to betting on his own team. He disgraced himself, the Cincinnati Reds organization, the National League and Major League Baseball. His antics have given new meaning to the name "charlie hustle" (((lower case on purpose))). If his name were to be added to ANY ballot, it would be a slap in the face to the other players on the ballot who distinguished themselves with outstanding careers.
The only way I would consider allowing him to be added to a ballot would be to wait until after he dies so that he could not bask in the glory of an induction ceremony.
