I used to live in Conroe, and I wondered the same thing. Since Rita, people are more inclined to want to evacuate now.

The interstates will be jam packed, and the side roads, too, because of Houston and Galveston. You will just have to follow your instincts as to whether to evacuate early. I believe that we all have a little voice inside us that will warn us of danger if we will just listen to it.

Most hurricanes start heading east as soon as they hit land. So I would definately head to San Antonio or further west if a hurricane were going to make landfall in the area. (If I still lived there.)

BTW, one of the saddest days of my life was when my family and I left Texas because my husband was transferred. We got sent to NEW ENGLAND! Yuck!

I'd stay off of 45, for sure - head out 1488 to 290 west. Honestly though, I think we're okay in Montgomery County - as long as we don't have another Allison!

Call your local police station and ask what the city's evacuation plan is for residence that way you can evacuate to where shelters are set up by the Red Cross

Duh,,, 'just curious'? Look at a frigging map and make a plan!

I know that here in the Tampa Bay area we've been damn lucky (Charlie in '05 as an example), but I sure as hell know that if that happens again, I'm north on 19 (to avoid interstate 75) and heading inland.
