Probably because the habitat in which these animals live has remained relatively constant over time. Terrestrial habitats tend to change at a much faster rate than marine habitats. Adaptation to habitat is the principle purpose of evolutionary change.

Basically, is that over time, nothing has challenged them to evolve further. Neither predators, climate, or environment has changed, in such a way, that would necessitate further addaptions. Take a look at the virus, it is challenged every second and constantly mutates, it is the fastest of the evolving creatures, which makes them one of the most dangerous, as we are adapting way slower than they are.

It all comes down to what is needed, NOW, for survival. I believe that humans may be way too slow to survive for the long story.

If the environment does not pressure on a species to evolve (which means the environment hasnt changed at all and that species is perfectly adapted to it) a species would remain basically the same.

Because evolution isn't true. It's because we're so much smarter that we show up higher in the fossil record. The more "complex" creatures were smart enough to get to higher ground. This the lower down you go the further into the past you see is baloney
