I haven't watered them in about 3 weeks, and strangely enough, they seem to be much happier. Can someone explain?

Just in case you are interested,
If you don't want the worry of when and how much then you can purchase African Violet pots. There are two of them that stack together. The outer pot holds the water and the inner pot is porous and absorbs the water keeping the soil at the appropriate moisture level. I got mine at Lowe's for about $6.

Water them once a week or when the soil is dry. I have been doing this with my violets for years and they are beatiful! Also try mixing in some store bought Violet food in liquid form in the water. It Works Great!

Water them when the soil is dry, just enough to moisten them well. I used to have African Violets, & found that they did well in the southern light.

african violets belong to genus of plant called succulents
akin to the cactus family
if water at least every two weeks if in pot should be ok
if planted in garden flower bed can water frequently as more ground to absorb water
when come to end of cycle cut right down close to ground and they should re'appear next year
