If your neighbor's volume, interferes
with your peace-then your neighbor is
being too loud. No ifs ands or buts
about it. You are a tenant with the expectation to some decent peace and quiet; so the only one who's being unreasonable is your neighbor.
This person could be cited for 'disturbing the peace', by the way.

Depends on what you consider loud. If it is loud enough that you have to raise your voice in order to be heard by someone in the same room as you, I'd say that's too loud. I think Radio Shack carries decibel meters that will tell you how loud it really is. Then you can call the police and ask them about noise ordinances where you live.

I pretty much was in a similar situation, idiot, loud neighbors, I went to the library and looked up the law's concerning disturbing the peace, I took it to the management, along with a list of problems from my neighbor, I don't know what management said to him, but I never heard a sound from him again!
Some of your other responses think your the one that is loud.

I sympathize. I hate noise from apartment neighbors, too. Have you talked to your apartment manager? As some others have suggested, I would check out the noise ordinance in your community and call the police if it's out of those bounds.

oh, i know how you feel. i lived in an apartment complex for 14 years. there was always at least one person who just had to be loud and rude. it's loud when you can hear it outside of their apt. i have a problem with those kind of rude people. they think they are the only ones who live there. it's like the world revolves around them. complain to your landlord and call the police or move out if you have to. good luck.

it is an apt, and the office folk hear about this all the time. I work at one. Usually any loud music after 10:30 is unacceptable. But you have to understand that the only people that can really help you is the office staff and they have people that ***** about everything. They are alot more likely to help if you talk to them nicely and dont give them an earfull.

As others have stated... if it's after 10pm and you can hear your neighbor over normal conversation it is too loud.
Your City government should have it codified... in my town it is 10dB after 10PM.
I had a neighbor who would blast music all day... at 10pm I would call the police. She was cited a dozen times, and finally evicted.

If you neighbor playing his stereo loud enough for you to hear it then he is playing it too loud.
If he is just walking around and the sound of his footsteps coming through your ceiling, then you just have to live with it.

It's time to move.
Apartment noisy neighbors cannot be controlled because it is not noise to them.
Try to find a detached duplex to rent. They are so much nicer.
Don't buy a condo, it's the same as an apartment unless you can find a detached condo.

If your neighbor can hear it then yes, it is too loud. Use headphones if you want your music loud. Dont risk getting evicted.
