I am currently living in Louisiana and I have about 9 months left of school. I plan on moving out of state once I graduate. I would like to live in a beach town/city either big or small, but if it is small, i need to be within reasonable driving distance to a big city to work out of. The list of states I have been looking at are Florida, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful?

Monterey california is the place for you. Work is good there and has nice beaches. There are tons of places to live and work there. Like seaside is next to the beach and highway. It is in the middle of california and not in the LA side where it is all stuck up people. Nice weather sometimes but some crime.( just dont move to salinas). But if you want to work in tech then move to san jose. Big city, nice, great jobs.

I visited Wilmington, NC and think it is a great place. It is not a large city, but not a small town either. The beach is only five miles away. If you need a larger city, then you might like Virginia Beach, VA or Columbia, SC. Pensacola, FL is also a nice town, but is still recovering from hurricane damage a few years ago. The beach there is VERY beautiful. The water was warm and clear, and we saw several dolphins very near the shore. If you are from Louisiana, then, obviously Pensacola would be closest to home. I think it is a larger city than Wilmington, but not as large as VA Beach. Also, you will experience more seasons in NC or VA. Good luck.

Virginia is good, Va Beach is large and mostly suburbs, a lot of housing available, Norfolk, Chesapeake 20 minutes away. Weather is good most of the year. Depending on your major and job that you're looking for, the economy is strong here.

I would avoid California totally!!! Its way to expensive to live there. You will pay at least $1000-1200 a month for an aparment and you would have to commute for a ways. If I were you, I would research each state, write all your pros and cons on a list and go from there. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Stay on the east coast. California is too pricey. Florida as well. The Carolinas' and VA are your best bet. Real people, too.
