I am A SAHM in Red Deer who wants to meet some moms who are interested in doing some "mom time" events.
Is there anyone in this group who would like to set up some dates...(strangers..not for long!), to do some activities that are for the moms? Whether it's a hike in the hills for the day... maybe a night out?...scrapbooking day?...I'm just thinking of ideas...Does anyone else have some?

The best thing would be to take a class. Your local school department should have a continuing ed or adult ed section where you could sign up for an 8-week class in something, and make friends that way.

If you go out with the idea that you only want to meet other moms, it might be pretty boring.

I'm not from near Red Deer but when my kids were very little, there was a group of moms that started meeting through the City Parks Department. It was a cool idea that you may want to investigate or even start...

Moms would meet together while their kids were in another room where they could play. We pooled our money to get babysitters for the kids so we could just hang out and talk. It was a fun group and great way to be able to "get away" for a while. Because it was sponsored by City Parks we had their rooms. If there is a YMCA, Church, Community Center or Senior Center close by, maybe you would be able to use their rooms. Advertise for other Moms...because they're out there...and they are looking for the same thing you are describing.

During the scheduled events you can share different things like scrap booking, crafts, or the first few times, just a chat so you can learn about each other. Once the group gets established, you can start planning other outings like hikes, or lunch dates (picnics at the park) etc.

The best thing about my experience was pooling our resources to get sitters to watch the kids so we were virtually free to relax and talk...and the kids were just on the other side of the door so we a short call away if anything happened.

It's been 11 years and some of us still keep contact.
