They like warm dark places near food. Most electrical devices generate heat when in use and are dark on the inside have cramped innards that exclude active stalking predators that might like to munch cockroaches or their egg cases.
Since roaches can eat glue and paper in addition to any crumbs of human or pet food that might be associated with the devices they are kind of ideal little houses for them.
Heck, they might not have to step outside of them to eat for a while after they move in, just eat breed and be warm.
Kind of makes me want to take an axe and a can of bug spray to my household gadgetry.

I bought a device years ago that you plug in to the wall and it was supposed to send a signal around the house to get rid of the roaches. It seems like it made the problem 10 times worse and I think they were more drawn to it than repelled. I would find droppings underneath it. I do think they either like the vibration the electricity puts off or the heat that's generated from said devices or both.

I don't believe they are attracted by electricity itself.
* The devices do provide access to the wall cavities where they nest.
* In colder climes, the small amount of heat radiated by the electric device might be an attraction.

That's a new one on me. Cockroaches are attracted to food and food only. You will find them anywhere food is stored.

one man tight dark underneath is another's secure dry home, just logic, your leads and wires are just freeways to the roach under life, making domination, be it hidden, of your abode, only easier.
