I'm trying to watch what I eat, and restaurant portions are huge. If me and my girlfriend ask for a seperate plate and split something, and thats the only food we get, is this "ok"?

it is fine just take it into consideration when you leave your tip. Sometimes the server will split it in back for you. Fancier restaurants might charge you extra. My husband and I will sometimes split a meal and the bill is like $10. I will usually leave her $4. Also if it is a place you go to alot, the servers will be more friendly.

yes it is acceptable. Just watch out some restaurants will charge you a small fee for an empty plate. They do it to help cover the cost of washing the plate and using it. Normally it is under $1.00. My husband and I do it all the time,

It's fine to do that, really! It's not even unusual. OK, yes, it's a bit different for you. But it happens a lot in catering. Staff really do realise that when customers are happy, they tip!

Look, if customers are uneasy, they might add a little extra once, but they will never return there. They'll also pass their impressions onto the other two thousand people they work with, socialise with, correspond with! When they take their friends or family out for any happy occasion, that's never the place they'll visit if their friends, colleagues, or dates appreciate friendly, understanding, imaginative staff : )

Glad you are considerate of others, your girlfriend must like that trait in you too : )

Absolutely

Some restaurants charge for sharing the plate but most I have been to don't.. If I go to one that does, I just take the other half of my food home with me; for lunch the next day.

Oh yeah, me and my sister used to do that all the time when we were watching out weights, the restaurant doesn't care. Just ask for one meal and two plates. =)

Yes we do it all the time but we always make sure we get salads as well. Ask those your waitress, sometimes there is a fine print fee for plate splitting.

I think its perfectly fine. I do it all the time because the portions in the restaurants are huge and when I split it it leaves room for dessert AND you pay less! yay! :)

It's definately ok. Sometimes servers will treat you differently though. They won't offer desert, will neglect your table, and/or will rush you the bill. It doesn't always happen. I'm just giving you heads up that this may occur, but don't let it stop you from enjoying your meal and looking after your health.

I do it all the time, some restaurant portions are so huge it's no wonder people get fat. the waiters and waitresses understand and it's nothing to be ashamed about.
