You've been around too many/read too much of the skewed literature re aging!! I'm 78, eat rationally and healthily, used to walk 2 miles @ 4mph to my disco tape; take courses; love being around my grandchilren; etc. I am overweight--140 @ 5'3". but am going back to my exercise routine again. NO WAY WOULD I GO UNDER THE KNIFE!!

It's because of peer pressure, man. We live in an era and a society that demands beauty. There are people who can't accept one another for who they are. Instead, mostly everyone is judged by their appearance.
I'd definitely just let my body age naturally and not go through plastic surgeries and all that just to look pretty.

Because one tend to look uglier and uglier as one get older and people now aday is living longer than past generation. There is nothing wrong with plastic surgery, all movie stars have plastic surgery done on them and we admire their looks with a few exceptions. Most movie stars look younger than their civilian counterpart because of plastic surgery. It is OK to have plastic surgery as long as you just want to look like yourself but younger. It is not OK if you want to look like someone else aka Michael Jackson, remember plastic surgeon are good but they can't do magic. And it is not about society, it is for you, when you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning, are you happy with your look? If not then why not do something about that....

The various markets are commercializing youth. They make it seem as though reaching middle to late life as wrong--or at least that we should not look our ages.
When I was young you could estimate someone's age by the way they dressed, and did their hair. Today, many people in their golden years wear the same clothing and hairstyle as their daughter--or grand-daughter.

I've grown to love the double chin that floats on top of my skinny little body.
I'm not beautiful, and no one requires it of me.
It is amazing, however, how young people treat anyone they think of as old in our society.
I can see why some people would want to hide the fact of time.
