If you came from your mom and dad, why do we still have them around? Your question has been asked a number of times and is disingenuous in nature. We have common ancestry with apes, then we branched off and went our separate ways. Evolution is not about progress, but about change by mutation and response to immediate environment.

Your question is similar to this one: If I descended from my grandparents, why do I have cousins. The answer in both cases is that there is nothing about biology that prevents it.
To be more detailed, modern monkeys and apes are not the same species as our common ancestor. Humans evolved in the old world, long after the new world and its monkeys were separed from Gonwandaland. And humans evolved in east Africa on the savannahs while old world African monkeys evolved further to the west in more forested environments.

Have you ever seen one of those branching evolutionary diagrams?
The theory here is that 'man' and 'monkeys' share a common ancestor, meaning somewhere in prehistory an early species of primate evolved into several seperate species, some of which became the species of monkeys we see today, and one eventually evolving into homo sapiens.
In a nutshell, every single monkey that ever existed did not turn into a human being. There's evidence that birds evolved from lizards, but we still have lizards too!

There is more than one type of evolution. Divergent evolution is when one species evolves into two or more species in order to take advantage of different habitats.
In other words....
Monkeys and apes are adapted to their life in the trees and forest. Man evolved to take advantage of open areas with no trees. He evolved as a predator. Our brain allows us to make weapons that strike at a distance and to follow tracks (no other animal is as good though some can hunt by smell), Our upright posture allows us to travel long distances.
In Africa there are still a few tribes that use the most primitive hunting method known to catch prey. They literally run their prey down. Hard to believe but these runners can cover 100 miles in 24 hours. Incidentally I had a professor who was a marathon runner who ran 108 miles in 24 hours and said it was not good enough to place nationally.

NO-ONE - repeat NO-ONE - claims that humans evolved from monkeys and/or apes!!!!!!!!!!! No-one even mentions this wacky idea except fundamentalist Christians with zero knowledge of science and zero desire to acquire any knowledge.
