I blame the media and fashion. People are suppose to be stick people and that just isn't healthy.

You are totally right! Kudos to you for knowing being a good mom, having a good marriage, etc is way more important than being a size 0...Being thin just fits into people's stereotyped perception of a successful person. Being thin now is also glorified indirectly by the media and the fashion industry.Don't fall for it. Tell them that you do not stress over your weight and THAT's why you look good :D People are often insecure about their own weight so when they see someone with the weight they'd like to have, they can't help but praise...

Well, for one thing, excess weight has been proven to cause a whole host of diseases that could have been prevented if people had just watched what they ate & excercized a bit.

There is a diabetes epidemic in the nation the scale we have never seen...and it is costing this country billions.

Being fat, to put it plainly, puts one at a much greater risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke & so many other health issues.

As for the asthetic part of the equation, well... if someone is attracted to a large man or woman, that is their choice.

Is weight an issue in our culture? It sure as hell is, and it should be an even bigger issue when you consider all the ramifications.

Thanks for the rant.

Personally I agree with you full heatedly. Our society wants everything to be perfect. I do not believe that weight should have anything to do with that. Look at what it is doing; it is causing many Americans to develop eating disorders. This is not what a society or culture should be trying to do, but it is!

1. because so many people are grossly overweight and it is affecting their health... this is children AND adults, which is so sad

2. because after WW2, the women were terribly malnourished and this included the actresses. it became the "fashion" to be thin, rather than healthy, and it has become more and more extreme from that point on...

Some people are really picky. Some people don't care how much someone else weighs.

It actually dates back to our biological nature. People who are fit and in shape are sexier, because we as a species have been programmed to find mates who will produce offspring with the highest likely hood of surviving in the wild.

I dunno.

It just does, why does skin color?

I could blame the media but that is garbage.

I have seen tons of "media" and am not racist or anorexic....
