As funny as it sounds, it's because they don't want to hurt them. Or maybe more accurately, they don't want to face them when they hurt them. Ultimately, they want whatever it is they are after and will do and say whatever it takes to get it. So, instead of saying, "Hey i want to use you, then dump you when i am done" They mislead, do it anyway, and don't stick around to see the results.
