The Weegie accent is hard to understand because its got an affliction. Plus it is quite a hard sounding accent at the best of times even when you have a phone voice, plus Americans dont realise that people from Britian dont all sound like BBC news readers so have no idea what us Scots or the Welsh are saying half the time, plus Scottish people speak very fast compared to English again even when speaking on the phone

There is nothing wrong with any accent and especially the Glaswegian one, I should know as I used to have one but it only resurfaces if I go back hame for awhile.
As to Americans not understanding you, they don't know proper English for a start and they are so full of themselves especially on the phone they only try to pick out certain words and they fill in the blanks themselves.
Before any Americans have a go, I worked with some previously and they all admitted the same thing lol.

Oh I know! I'm from the North East, and see on the phone anyone from anywhere other than Scotland finds it hard to understand me! My accent isn't even that thick!
As for glaswegian accents... they aren't my favourite accents. Especially on women, but I think they are alright.

I love watching Scottish films just because of the accent. It is so sweet and pleasant. I like the way the tone raises in the end of the sentence, making it sound as a question than an affirmation. It is so pleasant to listen to, like a song.
But in real life, I have to admit, I have difficulties understanding it. Maybe this is because I enjoy listening to it so much, that I get carried away listening the pleasant sound of the language rather than concentrating on it's meaning.

My son, an Aberdonian, has the same problem. I think it has more to do with the speed of the speech rather than the accent. People in North East Scotland have a dialect totally different to anywhere else & they also speak really fast.

The Glasgow accent is lovely. I do like the Edinburgh accent more, but that is just a question of taste. If it were good enough for St Kentigern, It should be good enough for everybody!
If you speak slowly and articulately any English-speaking person will understand you very well.

I absolutely love Scottish accents! The thicker the better. I understand them pretty well even though I myself am not Scottish. I think that with any accent, it gets worse the faster we speak.

I come from the northeast of England and I know what your on about, But I also have family from Glasgow and from chapel hall area of Scotland and its true a lot of people just don't take any notice anymore, that's thanks to the government for losing track of the people that really mean something to this united kingdom. I really wouldn't worry to much aboot the Americans there really mixed up as it is.

I think most people don't listen on phones as properly as they should. they tend to lose concentration and ask, "what did you say?"
I like scottish accents, its something different than the normal accents you here everyday lol
