I heard this joke for couple of times on some TV shows.
But I didnt get it?
Why do they call them gay?

they live together, share secrets, probably gossip about bad guys, wear spandex or some other comprable material equally skin tight, they have a secret cave where they slide down poles to get to? i dont really know why for certain... batman gets chicks and robin tries....i think its just the whole secret thing....like maybe they have more then one secret in the bat cave....

You must remember that these characters started life in a comic aimed at 13yr-olds. So Batman is a kind of 'father-figure' (or whatever) for Robin, and therefore for the readers. I suppose this is a male role-model idea (bizarre though it sounds).
I imagine that there is a certain amount of at least homophilia in this kind of relationship - little boy looks up to and admires more mature man, etc. For this to work it is essential that the man does not have a girl-friend, since that would undermine the boy's sense of 'ownership' of the man.
The Greeks seemed to understand this kind of thing, and took it to its logical conclusion....

Listen, Batman is my favorite comic character. But you have to admit there is something a little strange about a 40 year old man running around with a 13 year old boy.
Not to mention "Seduction of the Innocent".

there was a documentary on the past and present of comic books.. a man who hated comic books sued the makers of almost every comic book and part of his defence was that they were all for the purpose of sexual things... for example: he claimed Wonderwoman was a sign of sexist because of her bracers being her weakness. And he claimed that Batman and Robin were homosexual because they were two male superheros that wore spandex, spent a lot of time together, and did all the flippy acrobaticy stuff... sadly the man won a few of the cases even though they weren't really worth the lawsuit
