make sure your sim has all the required skill points. also make sure your sim has enough friends. you can see what your sim needs in the job section by the status bars. if that doesn't work, make sure your sim is going to work in a good mood. that should do it.

Whenever I start a Sims game, I always work up my skills to the fullest, make lots of friends, and THEN look for a job. Then I take the time a few hours before they have to leave to make sure they are in a good mood.

ur sim has to have a good mood when he goes to work, until they promote u, and if u r a cook for example study cooking at home to improve
