recognition to into to children's hospitals to sign autographs an try to make terminal patients feel a little brighter about themselves. I guess, you can only be a role model by living the life that you choose to live, without fanfare.

It did used to be cool when I was cop to go and talk with kids and let them see my motorcycle and they were thrilled! I know a lot of people don't like law enforcement in any way shape or form, but the kids still responded positively.
I miss that part, and being able to help people without them being worried about some ulterior motive.
School teachers get to have a positive effect on others also.
My hat is off to them.

Yes, I am a role model for many, as are you. My focus has been on business so that the people I am a role model for are small entrepreneurs and people that want to take the leap and blaze their own trail. Just as I did.

In your case, as a teacher, you endow your students with a need for knowledge and set an example by your actions.

On a side note. I did have the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Hank Aaron about 15 years ago.

Now athletes are a different matter. I can't think of a worse role model to embrace. Putting aside the drugs, vanity and general irresponsibility of so many of them, it occurs to me that a role model should be something, or somebody, to emulate in the realistic hope of attaining the respect and success of the role model. That is totally unrealistic when it comes to athletes. The odds reaching a professional level in sports are infinitesimal.

I think it is far more beneficial to be a role model in a realistic manner. As you state, without fanfare. Simply by example.

On a side note, I did have the pleasure of spending several hours with Hank Aaron about 10 years ago. Sure, he was the home run king, but most importantly he was, and probably still is, a real gentleman. A good man. Unlike the newest home run king. Hank is a role model. Not because he is the best hitter of all time, but because he is simply a good and kind man. Something Bonds will never be.

I dont know if I would be a good role model for children. (As you can tell from my "name"!) I think Ashley Tisdale is a good role model for young girls. She goes to chilrens hospitals, she volunteers her time for other people while being the great singer and actress that she is!

I am a role model to our boys. They want nothing to do with running the streets at night, cell phones, drugs, alcohol, or going to prison. I explain the cold hard facts of life and even mention how fairy tale endings are a load of crap.

My daughter told me recently that I am her role model. She's 21 now. I can't tell you how proud I felt in that moment. My heart hurts for the misfit kids, the throwaways that society in general ignores. I wish I could instill a sense of worth into each one.

I was a 'roll' model once...they tried to get me to pose in a bakery with butter slathered all over me. Then they wanted me to pose as a donut but I was afraid I would get eaten by Officer Toodie..."Car 54 where are you?"
