You need to wash it in hot water and dry it with high heat in the dryer.

It would have to have as much natural fiber as possible. You can't get polyester to shrink. Wash in very warm or hot water and dry in hot dryer. Problem is even natural fabric is often preshrunk before sewing, so it's already given as much as it can. People who sew their own clothes know to wash the fabric before cutting out the pattern. Still, give the hot water a try.

That largely depends on the material, as today clothes are either preshrunk or made of material that doesn't shrink easily. Try hot water wash, warm water rinse and then dry as usual. It will be very difficult to control the amount of shrinkage, though. Good luck.

I always wash the item in really hot water if I am trying to shrink it.

all you need is to wash it normally and when you dry it, use high heat.
i have so many shirts got shrunk in that way and i have to iron them real hard to get the original size..
btw the higher the heat is, the more shrinkage you will get. im sure it works..

put dryer setting on high heat will shrink check every few minuts to not over shink.
