We want to get married soon say in 3 weeks before he goes to iraq, but i have to tell my dad im pregnant first, and convince him that this is for the better.. my sister had a baby at 19 and is on WIC> i dont wanna be like that and if something happens to him in iraq I wont have the money to raise our child properly... if we get married now, we'll have a lot of money every month, marriage, compensation, BAH, benefits, GI bill, medical and dental.... how do i tell him because we need to get married.. we love each other and we were going to get married before we found out i was pregnant, but that wouldnt have been till next year when he gets back from Iraq.. but any way.. i NEED to tell him i just want ideas of how to go about it....when im terrified of him

Oh and im not money hungry, for you rude people who said that.. my mother is a perscription naurcotic and i couldn't hurt my sister by getting my dad arrested since my dad is a dr and would lose his license... my sister lives off of my dads benefits and if he lost his job, he would lose insurance and my sister and her baby would be in a bad place... But right now.. im writing him a letter but other ways for me to tell him is greatly appreciated.. going back to my first note though.. im not money hungry, my dad is always worried about my future and he thinks i couldn't provide on my own. I do go to college i graduated high school early and im on a scholarship. the whole mentioning money thing uhh last time i heard that was a good thing.. that way we wouldnt be struggling to raise our baby in a upbeat enviorment. ORRY IF WE BOTH WANT OUR BABY IN A GOOD PLACE AND BE ABLE TO HAVE A COLLEGE FUND FOR A BABY fOR HIS/HERS FUTURE

Go to a neutral place, somewhere he can't get irrate. Tell him how excited you are to start your life with your fiance and then tell him you know you are young but you are having a baby. You are strong and be confident you are doing the right thing, being afraid and keeping yourself away from the doctors is only affecting the innocent baby who needs to be checked and proper nutrition. Good luck, remember the dust has to settle.

I was in the same situation, the only difference is that BOTH of my parents are abusive, not on drugs, and they live in WI not AK like I do. First I would call the authorities about the drug issues in your home. Then, I would just talk to him and tell him what's going on and since you're only 17 you probably will need your father's consent {I would say both parents, but I'm not sure where your mom is} to do so, depending on which state you live in, as I'm not sure what the marriage rules are from state to state. Being that I was in the same situation that you are in, I will only encourage you to talk to your father and tell him the decisions that you want to make and show him that you want to make the responsible ones. Be sure to point out the benefits that you'll get from the military because in your case that might help "sell" yourself better to your dad, so to speak. Just be brave and tell him what you're going to do. Know that everything will work out in the end and if you ever need any more advice or anything, email me at amyhwoods@yahoo.com and I'll do what I can to help you out. I'm rooting for you girl!

If your dad is prone to temper tantrums I'd say tell him in a letter when you'll be gone for some time. (The longer the better.) (A night with a friend? A vacation with someone, somewhere?) That will give him some time to cool down and do some actual thinking about it before he makes any rash decisions.

Explain your case in detail, and everything you told us too, of course. Let him know how you feel about it, and that you're scared and need his help, and to please be there for you. This will be his grandchild no matter what!!! If this doesn't bring him around you may need to be making some decisions on your own.
Remember to pray for strength and wisdom. For wisdom so you will ever be able to discern right from wrong, and for strength, that you may ever have strength to do what is right.

There is nothing wrong with being on WIC. It is not the same as getting Welfare. It is just a little help getting healthy foods for pregnant/nursing mothers and young children. Can you get your mom to give you permission to get married? I would have your fiance go with you to tell him. If your dad tries anything he can step up and deal with your dad. You also don't have to live with your dad. Once a minor from age 16 and up has a baby they are considered legally emancipated (In most states anyway). If you have medical through your parents you need to get in to see your doctor. They are legally bound by the doctor/patient confidentiality laws. They cannot discuss your medical records with anyone without your written consent.

You can go to a doctor without your dad knowing. they have protected laws that make it so they can't tell your parents. That will at least get the ball rolling. However, when it comes to your dad, you should probably have a sibling or a friend over so that he doesn't do anything to you. You are practically an adult so he can't force an abortion on you. If it's that bad then maybe you should live with an aunt or cousin or something. I hope things get better for you. Congrats on your baby.

Ahhh, sweetie - call authorities about the drug usage in your house. That's the first step...for your mom and dad. If you were able to get birth control without your parents' consent, then you can certainly get prenatal care...by the way...over the counter prenatal vitamins are very available.
If it's really that bad, I would just leave home - there are places you can stay during the transition with your fiance.

Blessings to you!

Just tell him. Speak from your heart. He's your father. If he doesn't accept the announcement, it sounds like you have some support from your future in-laws. Get married soon. Your husband will have insurance and you'll be able to get the prenatal care you and the baby need.

The only way to tell him is to tell him. My dad was pissed when I told him I was pregnant and I was 21 at the time. You just have to deal with what he is going to do in your own way. Don't let it get to you because you have an unborn child to think about. Just hope and pray in the end he will come around accept you and the fact that you are having him a grandchild. Good luck girl, wish you well.

You just have to tell him, if your that scared of him it should be at a public place, maybe with your fiancee and his mom and go from there. Dont assume that just because hes in the marines and if something happens to him in Iraq that you will get oddles of money, thats not always the case. Plus you sound like a money hungry person. And your not are you?
