Well first of all i hate Emo!! Long Live Metal forever I like any genre of metal be it Heavy/Death/Black/Metalcore/ etc.. you get it... I think Metal actually takes talent to write riffs like those blazing fast ones and insanely good solos found in most metal! Emo is just pathetic i dont get it all they do is whine and write lame power chords!! Soo you guys decide what is better!?!? Me i would defenitely go with Metal DEVIL HORNS!!

Emo is soooo awesome. It gives you an automatic license to cry, cut, whine, complain, all while listening to really crappy music. The funniest part of emo is that everyone tries to be all dark and depressed like the goths, but if you take the words out of their music, all you are left with is Blink-182. And don't get me started on the fashions. They all look like Heavens Gate rejects looking to join Marshall Applewhite on the mothership. Maybe that explains the cutting.

Therefore, the answer is clearly METAL!!

I just want to make two comments as to previous responses. The first is concerning the person who claimed that Deathmetal and Blackmetal are random and do not take talent to write. I can understand why you may think that at first listen because the timing and structure can be difficult for an occasional listener to understand, or even notice. In this respect, Deathmetal and some Blackmetal are a lot like Jazz. For Deathmetal bands that illustrate this Nile may be the best example for this. Something to remember is that Deathmetal is not the same as Melodic Deathmetal which the majority of "Deathmetal" bands have become. As for talent, Look at the Band Death who brought an entirely new level of complexity and style to their music when they came onto the scene (R.I.P. Chuck). And remember, these are just examples, there are plenty of other talented bands in metal. As for Blackmetal, Emperor, Old Man's Child, and Goatwhore are prime examples that the music's quality is not lacking. I think that the reason why so many people get upset about the popularity of Emo bands is because it is just a fad. Metal is the fusion of many styles of music from Blues to Rock to Classical and so forth and so on. I am not saying that all metal bands have talent or skill, I am simply saying that the generalized style has a foundation based around other styles that require both. Musicians within the metal scene work unbelievably hard just to gain an underground following, and all though those fans would most likely do anything to support those bands, it still seems like they are getting shortchanged. Emo bands on the other hand have gained recognition (and a hell of a lot of record deals and money) not because they are good bands, but because Emo is in style. For anyone with an understanding of music(on an academic level) it would make them sick. And as for progressive metal Opeth certainly reigns supreme. They are one of the most talented bands out their, and can incorperate almost any style of music into theirs flawlessly (not to mention mixing and changing between three to four styles in a single song). Emo lacks true emotion. It is for those who wish they understood what pain and suffering was, but were too sheltered to ever know. plain and simple it is just an act.

I guess the best would be heavy metal. It sits somewhere in the middle between the two genres. It has the amazing guitar solos, but also the emotional intensity(screaming). But if you dont like that stuff normal metal and punk rock are two good choices as well

Metal all the way. The way I see it, there's three types of metal based solely on the singing..

1. OOOO's-The singer only sings in a way that makes his words sound like OOO OO OOOOO!! (Cryptopsy is my best example)

2. Ayeeee!- The singer only sings like his voice is cracked, so every word end with -ee!! or -yee!! (Pig Destroyer)

3. Combo- Both! (Lamb of God)

Metal isn't just screaming into a microphone. Have you read the lyrics? Read ANY lyric for ANY song by Pig Destroyer, Hatesphere, Rammstein etc. They are extremely deep:

Fourth Degree Burns, Pig Destroyer:
"Her touch is electric caresses like storms
Pleasure at the threshold
I see everything sour before it's ripe
Tomorrow she'll step on that plane and disappear
But tonight her lips are real
And kissing
Like a head on collision"

Sickness Within, Hatesphere:
"I feel it flowing through my veins
I feel it clouding my brain
And the world grows distant
This is my moment of clarity"

Morgenstern (Morningstar), Rammstein (Translation):
"She's so ugly that it gets dark
when she looks into the sky
Then the light is frightened
It shines into her face from below
So she must hide during the day
She just doesn't want to scare the light
She lives in the shadows until the glow fades
She sees a star shining in the twilight and pleads
Paint beauty onto my cheeks"

If anything metal has better lyrics!

I love metal of almost any kind.I listen to a lot of heavy metal, speed metal, doom metal, dark metal& some death metal.EMO SUCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!Emo bands have NO talent,no powerful lyrics,no nothing. They are more pop than rock.

Emo will fade with time....I sincerely hope so....metal will never die....bands like Metallica,Pantera,Alice In Chains (the list goes on) will always be remembered and people will always listen to them.

Emo to me seems particularly one-dimensional. It helpful properties the comparable platforms of guitar (no longer even riffs, in basic terms progressions), drumming, vocals (substitute sparkling and scream) and universal lyrics/feeling, that is that of whining or complaining. metallic, on the different hand, is a lot extra diverse, creative, and a brilliant form of of the time a lot extra technical (ex. doom metallic). Plus the vocals are a lot extra desirable, with categories of screams and shrieks and growls and making a music and whatnot. metallic is in basic terms way extra desirable, nonetheless I understand i can't particularly convert heavy-accountability emo followers over to my ingredient.

Yeah. My Chemical Romance against Cannibal Corpse... MCR cut themselves. Cannibal Corpse cuts other people.

As for the talent portion, I agree completely. Compare the most talented emo song you can find to Cannibal Corpse's Frantic Disembowelment. Emo would probably go 180bpm. at fastest. Metal can go faster than 280 bpm.

Metal is evil and anger. Emo is sadness and being b!tchy about it.

Metal is much better, especially bands like Judas Priest, Manowar and AC/DC; thrash bands like Venom, Razor and Bulldozer and earlier black metal bands like Bathory and Celtic Frost.

I find Emo bands can be somewhat 'all over the place', but I love the earlier punk and hardcore stuff, though.

Heavy Metal & Hard Rock gets my heart pumping, I can't even feel a hint of Rock & Roll trying to move through my blood when I hear that emo crap.
And I agree that those guys are talented especealy for some of those "Blazing Solos" it take years of practice but, some of the heaviest riffs are very simple and repetitive "power chords progressions. Heavy Metal is played with a snarled bloody lip and bad attitude aplified through dirty effects to punch you in the face
And that emo crap has no apeal. it doesn't even sound like rock and roll and sounds all gay & "oh woe is me" ... boo hoo hoo feel sorry for me.
