So you have to ask yourself what is the total cost of buying r raffles?

Answer: (1/2)r

Now ask yourself, how much money would you have left?

Answer: 15-(1/2)r

the amount you have left will be your original amount minus the amount you spent. your original amount is $15, so that's half of it. since you spend $.50 for every ticket you buy, the amount will be $.50 times the number of tickets (r). putting it all together we have $15-.5r
