Actually, losing weight now and then is normal in childern. My 16 month old recently lost some weight and her doctor said that was a normal part of development, as is the picky eating.

It sounds like your baby is perfectly healthy.

If your worried that she's not gaining enough then dont take her off the bottle just because she's turning 1. They have the next step formula for older infants and toddlers. My daughter is 14 months and only weighs 21 lbs. She's perfectly healthy but just like your daughter she's picky, hardly eats solid food. she chews the flavor out of things or might only take a couple bites and turns her head away the rest of the time. I give her bottles with rice still because she has to eat something.

She needs whole milk for the fat for brain development. Babies eat what they need. Trying to force a baby to eat more when they are not hungry can lead to obese children. A infant's/toddler's stomach is only the size of their fist, so they shouldn't eat more than a few tablespoons of food at a time anyway. Just make sure she is getting healthy foods and not filling up on junk.

My daughter weighed in at 6 lbs 10 oz and at her one year check up she topped the scale at a big 19 lbs. The Dr wasn't worried she is just petite! Just give her healthy foods and snacks and offer lots of variety. Also keep her on whole milk!!

Just try new foods. Keep serving her the same foods over and over again, eventually she will discover she likes them. There is not reason she HAS to be off the bottle at 1 year. If you are concerned about her not getting enough talk to her doctor about keeping her on formula.

Kids are never alike one eats very little and the other may eat all day. You need to find out what she does like to eat. Offer new finger foods that are for her age that are fun. Talk to your pediatrician he/she should be able to give you alot of pointers. Bread and fruit seem to be favorites.

Don't give her too much juice that will make her not want to eat. She will eat when she is hungry. They have pediasure which is a nutrition drink if your that worried ask her doctor.

uh... i just saw someone say that babies need whole milk at this time... while babies should be on whole milk for brain development and proper growth, babies should not be on cows milk until after 12 months of age. It's hard for their systems to digest.
