Smelling Gas at Gas Stove?

I smell gas near my stove. The burners on the left side are out they wont light. Whats the smartest thing to do?

turn off the gas, open a window, call the gas company, leave the house.

If possible, shut off the gas on the pipe leading up to the stove and let things clear out. You might need a wrench. Usually you just turn a **** 90 degrees to shut it off.

You probably just have a pilot out, but that's just a guess. If you're unfamiliar with gas stoves, I'd shut the gas off and find some one to show you the ropes.

BTW, **** means a little handle like thingy that is also a word for a male chicken.

From what your describing it sounds as if your pilot light is out. You should be able to lift the top of the stove and see the pilot light in the middle of the 2 burners if this is not lit lite with a match. make sure that both pilots are lit and put top down. Open the bottom drawer below the oven and look towards the back there should be a pilot light there. Make sure that this is lit as well. It is not uncommon for the pilot lights to go out.

if you have a free standing range slide foward about 2 feet behind it there is a pipe at the flex hose turn red painted vavle to off.then contact the gas company open a window to let air come in and dont lite any thing to posibley cause an exploshion.
