wouldn't make building a house go faster seeing as you wouldn't have as many to put together?

To an extent... but if the bricks get TOO large, it's too difficult to move them around !! For efficient handling and laying bricks must be small enough and light enough to be picked up by the bricklayer using one hand (leaving the other hand free for the trowel)

It IS interesting though that bricks ARE of all the same ROUGH size though... In the Indus Valley Civilization (c1900 BCE) all bricks corresponded to sizes in a perfect ratio of 4:2:1. The ratio for brick dimensions 4:2:1 is STILL today considered optimal for effective bonding.

They are pre-made. A company would have to change the whole factory. But I'm sure there is a better reason why they are small. Maybe they would break or crumble under the weight if they were larger.

nah, the masons would just work slower.
