I have a wife, two kids and two dogs. Kids are 13&9 so their education would also be a factor. So where is a nice place to live where there is employment, nice homes and good schools?

Stay far away from Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley. See, LA is crowded, messy, and full of either (1)fake rich people or (2) poor people in poor neighborhoods where you don't want to raise kids. The nicer areas are insanely expensive (as in, a studio apartment's rent is triple your mortgage payments).
As for the Antelope Valley, well, the police in LA have been cracking down on gangs, so they've all headed up to the Antelope Valley where the housing market is doing great. Houses are cheap, there are several public schools and a couple of good private schools, and...well, now it's gang infested. So yeah, stay away from those areas.

Well it all depends on what you and your family likes: I live in Washington so I'm partial to the west cost, but have lived in Georgia and loved it as far as the diversity. As for schools in Georgia, they rank some of the worse. Seattle public is ok (my daughter who is 16 goes), but again it all depends on what part of town you live in. If your partial to the west coast I would stay on it. I would be leery about the mid west and I did love Georgia.
You can also google different areas and get a better idea.
God Bless on your decision.

Sacramento is a great place to live. The wide open job market, houses are affordable and the weather is good, schools are good, close to the mountains, an hour to San Francisco, Big City with a small town feel to it.

I don't recommend relocating until you actually find a job. All of Cali is expensive... I live in southern and good luck finding a decent home under $600,000.

How much money do you have? This is the main question.

San Diego is great, so is San Francisco. Both are expensive.
