That you love them, will support them in any responsible choices that they make in life, that you are there for them, you are proud of them, you know that they can do anything that they put their minds to, to have safe sex, educate them when the time is right, that you are their confident, you are their best friend they can come to you, teach them right from wrong, tell them to stay away from drugs and smoking, tell them that you are proud to be their parent and most important tell them that they are important to you and that everyone has a purpose in life and their's will be great.
That is what you tell them let them know that you will never leave them and that you will always be there.

You would do well not to tell them the following:
1. they will never amount to anything
2. What makes them think they are special?
3. You don't like them
4. You hate your spouse/ex-spouse
5. you wish they had never been born
6. You don't like them
7. You don't believe in them
8. You don't trust them
9. You masterbate
10. You think male/females are horrible because...
11. no one will ever marry them
12. they are ugly/fat/worthless
13. you don't love them
14. they are the reason you got divorced

That I had sex for the first time at age 16.
That I drunk alcohol, as a cool thing, at the age of 18.
That I smoked at the age of 14.
Which none of these I participate in any more.
