Jim Jones was a master manipulator of those who followed him blindly, BSing them into all sorts of stupid things. In the end, he told them all to drink their cool-aid, which they knew was laced with deadly poison, and they all died.

The joke is that liberals are like Jim Jones victims, when the Leftist feeds them obvious BS they drink it down and beg for more. Al Gore is a master of that game.

Long ago, a Communist named Lenin stated that America's liberals are his "useful idiots". That remains true today.

There was a Cult back in the 70's or 80's led by a man named Jim Jones, who convinced the entire group to drink poisoned Kool-aid, and they all died.

It's kind of a sad story, really, and less of a joke. But whenever someone is blindly following poor leadership (i.e. "stay the course", or "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here") they're accused of drinking the kool-aid. In other words, believing what they're told without considering it's veracity.

Do you remember Jim Jones???? He was a supposedly godly man who took alot of people to Guayana and started a cult. Well to make a long story short, he talked all of them into drinking Kool-Aid laced with poison killing most all of them because he said the government was trying to overthrow him as God.

It's based on the People's Church mass suicide that happened in Guyana c. 1978.

The cult members drank cyanide-laced Flavor-aid (Not Kool-aid) at the behest of their leaders, most of them without questioning.

The similarities between the People's Church and the republican party remain to this day.

Hence, those who still support Bush and his fascist regime are known as "kool-aid drinkers".

There's a Kool-Aid joke?

Cult members drank Kool-Aid because they were told to by their leader. It's reference to blind followers(see the GOP).

Conservative/Republicans(members of GOP cult) drink the Kool-Aid from Fox News and AM radio. If it weren't for those two media outlets most Cons/Reps would have no opinion on politics.

jim jones killed his people by having them drink poison laced kool-aid. (FYI-although many said it was a consenual mass suicide some were forced)

people joke that liberals will either follow like a cullt, be stupid enough to drink whatever is handed to them, or simply have people tell them to go off themselves

It refers to Jim Jones and his misguided followers. They were told to shut up and drink the kool-aid. If you don't know who Jim Jones was just google Jones Town.
But now it can be used to refer to anyone who blindly follows a person, a philosophy or cult.
