It's not the Republicans who are trying to trash him, although admittedly not all of them like him. It's the Democrats who are trashing him.

A front runner from either side will end up getting trashed. That's politics. :)

It's not the Republicans that are pissed, it's most of America. To answer your question: He didn't upgrade police and rescue equipment after the first bomb scare in the 90's. He didn't order the occupants of the trade towers to evacuate when HE KNEW that those building were coming down, including WT7. He didn't allow the salvage teams the time to remove the bodies from the building's remains. He didn't protect his citizens from the toxins that floated in the air long after 9/11...should I go on?

Conservatives (speaking for myself and those that I know) arent pissed off at him. Its more that we dont trust him and he isnt a conservative in practice.

he flip flops.

His agenda is more of that of a Democrat.

He panders for votes much the same as Hillary or Obama does. He tells the people what they want to hear.

He supports Roe V Wade

Dont get me wrong, Rudy has some good ideas but all in all I think hes too liberal.

I think part of it is his stance on abortion. He also doesn't think gay civil unions would destroy America, like some right wing (R)'s think. Another part is he doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve like most of the others.
I heard someone asked him about his Catholic faith and he didn't go into it, said something like "Ask my priest if I'm a good Catholic."
Romney really seems much sharper to me, and I'm a Democrat.

He wasn't lock-step with the Republicans on the abortion issue or other social issues. Too bad - he is a good man and may have actually won.

Some conservatives are not that happy with his position on abortion, some other social policies - but other than that I think most republicans like him. He's way ahead in the polls.
