Due to weather change and/or global warming, that's why.

Weather is affected by the warming and cooling cycles that occur naturally on Earth, along with other factors. Remember "El Nino"? In addition, with the ability to spread information so easily in todays world, you're far more likely to hear about such happenings than you would have been years ago.

All the melodramatic hype about humans affecting the weather patterns of Earth is asinine. "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!" I'd implore people to gather research from neutral sources before making these half-baked, armchair scientist deductions. Scientists don't even possess the means to conclusively prove that humans are causing global warming. The Earths climate alternated before Man, and it will do so after we are gone.

And, if people are so compelled and believe they can save the Earth, why not attempt to "fix" other countries that lack the environmental standards we have instituted?

Where have you been, Mongolia? It's summer for weather, the weather forecasters on TV are now shaking with excitement and frothing at the mouth that they have a hurricane to play with. They were so disappointed the first storm to hit Texas was , heck, only rain. Haven't had any hurricanes for two months.
Forest fires have been happening before the Indians lived in the USA.
Mining is the #3 most dangerous occupation in the USA.

It has been "earthquake weather" in California, now that Peru had one, and a volcano in Alaska is burping, maybe the news generators -I mean talking heads-will get to tell us about an 8.0 in L.A.

Global warming. The greenhouse effect is causing all pollution gasses to stay within the ozone layer and making extreme changes in the climates, as well as creating more dangerous storms.

Stop pollution.

There's not much to it. It's the same weather and current events as it ever was. Nothing short of the same stuff that's been happening for centuries, except there's just new technology to bring you live pictures and feeds.

Because of the holes in the ozone layer, global warming, and the wrath of God (even though it affects innocent people, God lashes out sometimes too).
