Settlers of Catan.
There's some good mix of strategy, risk assesment, and luck to keep things complex, but not overly so.
I love its mid-games! In Monopoly, by midgame 95% of the time u know who's gonna win, but then you still need play for another hour or 3 for the game to actually end. In SoC, you do get the guy who lags very far behind b/c h got cut off or got many VERY unlucky dice rolls, but otherwise, it's not uncommon for those even 3 points behind to take the lead and even win the game.

dunno of Apples 2 Apples counts as a board game. Even though sites like boardgamegeek sells it, the game is pretty much all (in the) cards. Either way, it is fun to play

Our most recent discovery is Apples to Apples. It's not an intellectually demanding game (then again, neither is monopoly), but it's a lot of fun. I highly recommend it if you're playing with a group of six or more.

I used to like Monopoly but my husband is awful to play with! He becomes some crazed real estate tycoon! I prefer Scrabble because I can kick his butt at it! :-)

i think monopoly is great to but i definetaly have to go with LIFE as the best board game ever.

Yeah monopoly is the bomb but you might consider checking out Payday.
