A union suit is underwear that men wore in the 1910's and the1920's. Before there were Briefs and Boxers.

It was one piece underwear.

Is it possible, that you live in the state of Florida, where everyone dresses down due to the heat? As I know it's not a forgotten or abol- ished thing of wearing a suit or sportcoat and slacks to work with a tie. It would definately depend on the job for wearng a suit. But for the most part, all upper echelon jobs require that the dress code be as professional as possible. So dressing up, is almost mandatory. Even in the summer. That's where air conditioned cars and offices come in. You obviously don't linger outside in full suit and tie, you would have your car parked by a valet downtown, and seek refuge inside the air conditioned building as soon as you could get inside. You show more power in a suit, than dressed casual. And professionals know it.

I dont have any problems about that, if he choose to stay warm during winter. It's just normal.
