He knows that he is not going to get a new contract. He is holding out while he thinks about whether he should retire or not.
My opinion is that if you have to think about it this much and this late in the season, just retire already.

He'll be back after the Giants break camp on the 23rd. He'll return in time to play a little in the final preseason game against New England.

Strahan signed a contract that had all of the money loaded in the front end of the deal so he would not be a salary cap casualty at the end. Now he is upset that he is not earning enough money at the end. NO sympathy!!!!! Mike you already got paid the money you want right now, so get to work. It is not the Giants fault that you got soaked in your divorce.

There is no way Strahan walks away from the Giants and he definitely will not sign with the Washington Redskins

if He retires, He retires. He's not getting any younger and, He has been great for the GIANTS but, He needs to let the team know something soon so they can plan around Him and, get something else going.
Tiki, was very classy in this regard.

I think it is a great distraction and will hurt the Giants. Could it be that he is letting his personal life get in the way of his professional life? With the divorce proceedings in which his wife wants half of everything could be the reason here and he wants to renegotiate so her funds are lessened.

It's not a holdout - it's a retirement.

Well, he needs to make a decision. It's a business. And a business is going to look after their best interest, no matter how loyal the employee is. ;)rhi
