I've had my period for about 7 years now, and really it has never been regular. It's usually 22-27 days between each period [but has been less than 20 or 30 or more] and between 4 to 8 days in length. Whenever I expect my period it's a few days later than I assume it'll be. Is it normal to have it like this? I always get concerned like something medically could be wrong for some strange reason when I expect my period and it doesn't come until days later. It's just so frustrating not really knowing what day it'll be each month.

If you really want to know, there are ways to track when your period is coming, but the most reliable requires taking a basal body temperature every day (in other words, before you get out of bed or do any activity, taking your temperature and keeping track of it). Over time, it will help you really get to *see* your cycle - it's kind of cool if you can be disciplined about it. (I'm putting a link below about it - it's usually used by people trying to conceive, but it can help any woman view her cycle.)

Another way to keep track is if you can tell when you're ovulating, your period will almost always come 2 weeks later (even if your cycles are not normally 28 days, a common misconception is you ovulate halfway through the cycle, but that's not the case - it just works that way if you have the "textbook normal" 28 day cycle - but if yours is always, say, 34 days, you'd ovulate on day 20, not day 17 [day 1 is the first day of your period]).

Signs of ovulation (if you do the graphing, you should also see it in the temperatures) include extra cervical mucuous - the egg white cervical mucous type that's thicker and stringier than other times, and for many women being much more easily aroused (it makes sense - this is your prime time to get pregnant). If you know when you ovulate, your period should come 2 weeks later. If it's consistently not doing so, you may want to discuss this with your doctor as it may be a sign of defect in your menstrual cycle that will more greatly affect you if you do try to conceive.

Of course, you can also consider going on the Pill and that will pretty much regulate it as well.

Every woman is different, but this doesn't sound extremely normal. Have you talked to a gynecologist? You're old enough by now that even if you aren't sexually active, you should be getting pap smears regularly. There could be a physical problem or maybe it's just the way you are.
If the inconsistency bothers you and there is nothing physically wrong, you should consider going on the pill. It will regulate your cycle and you won't have to guess each month!

You can never know when it's gonna be each month, you can just assume, just like you're doing now. Your period has a mind of it's own, and anywhere around 28 days is perfectly normal. You just have to now the time of month you have to watch for it, and wait. It's okay if it's off, it will always be. Just know that you're not alone, and remember that it's normal.

you are old enuff, I'd guess.... see a doctor and ask about being put on birth control pills... at least then you'll know when things are due to happen!!....

are you very athletic?.... that sometimes gets in the way of 'timely' periods....

if you don't like the pill idea, you still need to talk to a doc... the time's coming when you will want a baby, and with this kind of off-time period, you may find it difficult....start early with the doc so you're ready when it's time...........

To be sure you should ask your doctor, but many women have irregular periods and it is perfectly normal. It is just the way they are.
