No, it's not a sport utility vehicle, it's a car/truck that has retro styling. It was developed by Chrysler, as a personal transport vehicle. With more configurations than most other cars. You can also get more after market goodies for it than any other car.
There now, aren't you glad you asked?

No, the PT ("Panel truck", "part time") Cruiser is not an SUV.
It is considered a multi-purpose passenger car. Part station wagon, part panel van, etc.
It is purposely made to appear as different from a mini-van.
To be an SUV, a "sport" utility vehicle, it would require, at the least, increased ground clearance.
The PT Cruiser was designed and marketed as a retro-custom, in order to appeal to younger customers as well as those of us old enough to remember panel trucks and the like.
In my sales training, "PT" was never defined. Better to leave it to the imagination of the customer, or the explanation of the sales person.

A PT Cruiser is like an oldie Station wagon just like the HHR Chevrolet. I'm pretty sure there were n't any SUV (Sport Utility Van) back then.

It is not an SUV! It is a HATCHBACK. Just go to kbb.com and click on used car values. It shows you different types of vehicles. There are sedans, wagons, vans/minivans, coupe, pickup, luxury, convertible, SUV, hybrid, and hatchback. The PT Cruiser best matches the hatchback. If yours is a 4 door PT Cruiser, then it is a 4 door hatchback. If it is a 2 door, or one of those convertible PT Cruisers, then it is a 2 door hatchback.

No - just an ugly-looking regular car. You can check ok Kelley Blue Book or any other website that divides cars in SUVs, Sedans, Convertibles, etc. It is never listed as an SUV.
Also SUV's always offer 4-wheel-drive option. PT Cruiser doesn't.

My best friend owns a 2007 Pt Cruiser Touring Edition The car is distinctive in its styling and has a roomy comfortable interior even though it has not changed in 9 years I personally like this car. its not my favorite, but its alright by my standards. Its 2.4 liter engine though is noisy and unrefined, the car is actually peppy in traffic but suffers reaching 0-60 on any expressway. The fuel economy is so-so and their are better cars with better milage. Even though I have a major soft spot for chryslers, I dont prefer the PT Cruiser. Or any of their models with that 2.4 L engine (The 09 Sebring is HORRIBLE, and they wonder why they went bankrupt) The exception is the Dodge Caliber. If you get that car, get the SRT 4 model

The PT Cruiser is considered a "light truck" under U.S. gasoline consumption standards. This category has been used for SUVs also, and because the standards for gasoline consumption are not as stringent, it allowed the growth of SUVs as the biggest-selling category of automobiles.
