The American Cancer Society recommends having your first Pap smear three years after becoming sexually active, or by age 21, whichever comes first.
So I think 10 is a little young...

Yes 10 years old is too young. A pap smear is needed before the age of 21 or with in 3 years of becoming sexually active. All a 10 year old needs is an annual physical from your family Dr.

No she could potentilly get a pap smear if she needs one, but she would be very uncomfortable about it at that age. Normally doctors suggest a girl to have a pap smear only after she becomes sexually active, or is much older than ten. She doesnt need one just because she got her first period don't worry.

Some doctors prefer girls start getting pap smears shortly after they start menstruating most want them to wait. It's good to get them done so that any problems can be caught early but sometimes doctors end up treating problems that aren't there. When a girl is young cells are constantly changing and the results of a pap might come back as abnormal even though there is nothing wrong. Really, unless she's been sexually active she should wait at least a few more years before having a pap but if you do decide to take her now don't panic if the results come back as abnormal and make sure they do a number of tests before anything gets treated.

Yes, it is way to young for a pap smear.
The pap smear is to evaluate for changes in the cervix that lead to cancer.
Human papilloma viruses are the set of viruses that cause these changes and they are transmitted sexually. In addition, the changes are typically not apparent for at least 2 yrs.
Why subject a young girl to an invasive test that will not provide her any benefit? Wait until she is sexually active and let her enjoy the beginnings of puberty without the visits to the Ob/Gyn.

Most women have their first pap smear at 16, when they become sexually active, or start birth control. So at 10, I don't see where it would be necessary (Unless there is a health concern), but I don't see it to be obscene.

She's too young. You're supposed to get your first pap smear when you'r 14 almost 15 or when you become sexually active, whichever comes first.

Why do you think that it is necessary?
do you think that there has been sexual activity-she is too young to give legally valid consent.
If there has been sexual activity then the Q is not valid but possible sexual abuse is.
Answering the Q on the basis that there has been NO activity it is not necessary .The cervix has not been exposed to any trauma and/or the HPV
In the near future possible immunisation against HPV will be advisible

she doesn't really need one, unless she's sexually active (which I hope she isn't), you suspect abuse, or she has problems like really painful periods or any kind of infection. It is possible to get an infection like candida even if you're not sexually active at all,so if she has problems, she should see a doctor. If there are no problems, there is no reason for her to get a pap.
You need one after you turn 18, or after becoming sexually active, whichever comes first

Way too young. ALL the experts recommend that a girl goes to a gynocologist AFTER she turns 21 or has sex (whichever comes first) She does NOT have to go just because she started her period.
