Over the past couple days, my Comcast cable's download speed is having trouble getting much past 500kbps. When I called them, the service rep told me that she didn't see anything indicating a cap or throttle. To verify that this is true, has anyone experienced Comcast slowing down your speed drastically without actually cutting off your service?

They never did me for me -- Typically residential comcast is only 3Mbps download -- a reason I switched to Verizon Fios -- 30 Mbps/download 3 Mbps upload -- all for $35 - i love it

I've wondered about Comcast throttling too. They are doing everything they can to compete with streaming services. I switched from DirecTV a month ago. After 4 years of streaming no problem at Comcast's 25 mbps to their package deal with 75 mbps, I am getting the download swirly circle on Netflix every few minutes. The xfinity speed test shows no problems, but geeeeezzz if my internet speed is now faster, why the streaming problems. My guess is that now that I have their cable TV the practice is to force users to buy upgraded channel packages.

I do not see any issues with the services, however, you can check the speed on your own by visiting any of the speed test link. If those speed test link's are also showing that the speed which you are receiving is correct then You can also follow some simple steps to improve the speed such as deleting cookies. However, if the speed does not increase then too, then there might be some viruses or infected files in your computer which might be causing this issue,

The problem with Comcast is that you share the bandwidth with your neighbors. So if no one is using it, you get the full download and upload speed. But if everyone is downloading porn videos at the same time, you'll notice a drop in speed.

That's why they started 'power boost' to try to try to overcome this problem of sharing and the limitations of old copper cables.

That's why Verizon FIOS says fiber to the door, no sharing, you get the full bandwidth, all the time, every time.

Our block couldn't wait to dump Comcast when FIOS was finally installed on our street. I would say at least half switched, which should make it easier on the other half!
