I hate Norton, and the mother company Symatic, and I also hate McAfee.

Norton crashed my system because I refused to buy their help desk, McAfee won't let me use my chosen Firewall which is included in my full Internet Security Suite because they won't help me remove it when they sent it preloaded on my $3,000.00 Dell Deminsion 5150 System last year!

McAfee says there are two files not under the McAfee name hiden in my system files, and corresponding Registry Keys, that they will "help" me remove it I pay them a fee!

I never asked for McAfee, in fact, I begged Dell not to instal it because I had my own personal Internet Security Suite, but, it is all on an image and not they "can't" seperate one program out of the rest. So, McAfee gets you coming or going. If you buy into their "free trial" crap, you pay after the "free" period, but if you don't want it you have to pay to have it fully removed.

So, because I thought it was fully removed, I installed my preferred solution, and it crashed my system! A conflict between the McAfee Firewall and my Panda Firewall. I can't load my Firewall onto my system, and the McAfee firewall isn't showing up anywhere on my system, can't activate, or disable it, yet Security Center shows it "McAfee Firewall reports it is installed and ON"!!

So, unless and until I pay the McAfee ransom I am unable to have a firewall on my brand new system. I have to trust only my Router hardware firewall to keep me safe.

There are a lot of great free Anti-Virus programs on the market. If you want a free Firewall, go with Zone Alarm, it is by far the best, no kidding. I love Panda because it is a full suite, but I have to say Zone Alarm puts out a better firewall than my beloved Panda!

A great place to begin looking for a free or low cost Anti-Virus program is:

norton is good i have used it for years and everyone i know uses norton. people don't understand or know how norton works so they assume it suck's. by looking at all you got its no wonder norton is giving you headaches you have a couple things that will conflict with it and any other program you get they will conflict with. rule of thumb is to only install one of each and no more.
1 firewall
1 antivirus
1 adware or spyware program.

look at what package you get to see if it contains any of those. i have norton internet securities wich has all 3 in one program so i do not need anymore programs installed.

i will sometimes run spybot search and destroy but i do not have it running at all except when i want to scan.
i also do not use spybots immunise function. i use it scrictly for scanning purposes. due to the fact it does scan a bit faster, and thats because its only looking for spyware and adware.

avg users always complain they have a virus.
windows firewall is not considered a main firewall.
adaware from lavasoft is good i hear.
cc cleaner doesn't do anything but allow you to delete cookies and temp files with one click of a button instead of navagating to the window. i have tested the product and ended up deleting it because it isn't anything but one extra piece of crap wanting to load and run a proccess when i boot my computer up, wich also uses ram.
i have been manually deleting and editing reg keys for 3 years and i have yet to find any program that actually cleans up your registery.

I've had Norton internet security for 5 years and it sucks. I am just so loyal that I keep trying to give the new versions a chance. But according to Consumer Reports (last month) PC Cillin is the best to have. I'm getting a new laptop on Monday and that is what I'm going to install on it.

norton does suck!!

This is what I've got (works wonders for me)

Antivirus: AntiVir

Firewall: Windows Firewall

Real-time Spy ware protector: Spyware Blaster

Cleaner: CCleaner

I also use use spy bot search and destroy and F-Secure blacklight rootkit eliminator occassionally.

All of which is free and for downloading at www.majorgeeks.com

edit: what you have is fine - just remember pick just one of each and you shouldn't be too slowed down. Pick an AV thats just an AV too much stuff and it will slow your pc down (like norton is bloated as any AV could be)
