I took it out her bouncy chair after a month or so because it never fitted right and she moved about so much it was just a pain - she has always maintained good head support without it.
Car seats are just too important, I think, and the head support is more integral, more sturdy etc and my first daughter had it all year she was in it, so will do the same this time.
I think generally with seats around the house it's knowledge of your own baby that will influence your decision best.

My daughter is 6 months and I never took the head rest out of the car seat. When she grew out of the one that was in it I purchased a bigger one. I find it supports her head when she falls asleep in the car.

My son is 10 months now and we still use the head rest. It protects his head when we drive. I doubt we'll ever remove it.
