Everwood was on the WB.

When the WB and UPN came together to form the new CW, it was announced that Seventh Heaven would be canceled and Everwood would be run for another season.

The "final" Seventh Heaven aired, and it drew enough viewers (presumably who were happy to be seeing it out the door) that the idiots at the CW decided to cancel Everwood and bring back Seventh Heaven for yet another season. The writers of Everwood were given notice that this was it, and to their credit, they wrote a fantastic shark-jumping episode that resolved just about every storyline in "Everwood" in the final episode.

Its interesting that Marcia Cross of "Desperate Housewives" played Dr. Abbott's sister (also Dr. Abbott). Still even more interesting is that Brenda Strong (the dead woman from "Desperate Housewives") also played the dead wife of Andy Brown.

The creator of Everwood, Greg Berlanti, is now working on ABC's new smash hit "Brothers and Sisters", and Emily VanCamp (Amy Abbott) and Treat Williams (Andy Brown) have both made guest appearances on the show.

Everwood SPOILERS:

Ephram and Amy DID manage to get back together in the end.
Hannah went off to school, did NOT get back together with Bright, but they remained close friends (and could get back together in a reunion movie, perhaps)
Andy and Nina finally admitted to each other (at the same time) that they loved each other, and Jake went packing.
Madison and Ephram finally moved on...allowing Ephram to get with Amy.
Harold Abbott and his wife finally decided to be happy together.
