everytime i enter my ip address into the explorer bar and try to go to it, it doesn't open the page with all the internet connection details (can't remember what its called). is there a way to fix this?

It sounds like you're tryijng to access your router control panel
Try http://192.168.1.1

If you're connected via a cable/DSL modem, the IP address is assigned to the modem, not to your system...so you won't be able to open it.

If you're running a webserver on your system, and if your router is pointing HTML requests to your system, then you should be able to open it.

It just depends. Perhaps w/more info, we'll be of better assistance.
