If they knew of the siemic "booms" why did they ever let any one down there to start with? I have had a bad feeling about this mine from Day One.

Sounds to me as if Burean of Mines and OSHA have been failing to keep up with what was going on.

That owner appears to be an incompetent boob. They ought to let the Authorities take over and get that jerk out of the way.

it's because of the type of mining they are doing with it. it's hard to explain, but basically they push out part of the foundation that holds up the mine, and if the rest of the foundation can't support the extra weight, the mine caves in.

maybe they have a vid online that better explains what i'm talking about.

Money is why. There is money to be made - and mining is never a safe thing to do no matter where its at. Its a dirty job, but we need coal. Someones got to do it.
Contrary to popular belief, miners in America today actually make pretty good money. Still yet that is no excuse for ignoring safety, and a investigation should be done to make certain no safety corners were cut in this mining operation.

DeusExMachina is correct. They're using a technique called retreat mining ... very dangerous, although approved in the US decades ago.

And, according to the scientists, the seismic booms aren't natural ... they're caused by the mine collapsing.

Combined, we have a very dangerous situation.

ya, they never should have started on that mountain. The Boss was saying the mountain is "alive", so they should have started mining somewhere else. now look what has happened. a rescue worker was killed yesterday and 8 more injured. today is like the 12-13 day now they have been trapped in that mine.

I agree with you, that area looks unsafe to begin with, how sad.
