We use laptops at home at the moment and always have used laptops or PC's. I was wondering if it's worth getting a iMac or macbook. I tried using a mac a couple of days ago and found it easy to use. We would also keep the laptops so things like compatibility issuses and inferier gaming issues dont matter.
1.Do Mac's generally run smoother than PC's i.e. less crashing, less viruses, and better multi tasking
2.Are Mac's better for doing things with pictures, movies, music etc...
3.Is there much difference between a PC and a Mac appart from the desktop and design.

Also how does Mac OS X leopard compare with Vista. And is it true that when you install new things you don't have to restart because I install loads of stuff and I hate having the restart when your in the middle of doing other things.

1. Yes, much smoother. In most cases it's because Macs aren't compatible with many kinds of internal parts, so the ones they do have (Which are usually very nice) are rock solid, and Macs almost never crash, and Mac OS has better drivers (Usually) than Windows, so multitasking may, (Or may not) be better.
2. Macs are much better for doing things with Media, because of the iLife '08 package that comes with Basic or Mid range editing software for almost any media (Photos, Garageband, iMovie, etc.) and they ARE compatible with most proffessional editing programs, such as photoshop, or you can purchase Apple's pro applications.
3. Not much difference in general, but the OS Specifically is EXTREMELY different. Windows is more mainstream, and has it's uses, and it's definately useful (Except Vista :P). But Mac OS is very easy to use and is definately what the mainstream OS should be.

And Leopard should be much better than Vista. If Leopard is ANYTHING like the older Mac OS' then it will be very organized and not a big resource hog like Vista. Mac OS DOES take up a very nice chunk of HD space, but all Macs come with 200+ GB HDs, and it isn't a drain on many other processing resources, but still looks very nice. Even Windows fans might agree that Vista is made of fail. And the new iMacs come with spiffy aluminum and glass cases, and fancy internal parts. Just remember when ordering your Mac that most models can't trade out parts. (The Pro models might. I know for sure the Desktop 'Pro' can, not sure about the 'Pro' laptop).

P.S. Only certain system updates require restarts, but you can minimize the update Window and restart when you're done.

1> Macs are NOT virus PROOF, however there are NO viruses for Macs.

2> Not really in the technical aspect, but Macs are preferred by most visual design people because of it's compatibility with many graphics programs. For the consumer, Macs ship with iLife, which is a great video editor, photo editor, audio editor, website maker, and DVD maker

3> Yes. A better user experience, more security and peace of mind.

Mac OS X Leopard will be far ahead of Vista when it comes out, and Tiger, the current version, is already far ahead of Vista.

1. Yes they do, they are practically virus proof.
2. They say that Macs are better for those things but I run my pro tools on a PC with no problems.
3. Yes, you can update a PC's hardware much easier than a Mac and the two are not compatible on a lot of programs and files.

I personally like PCs but if you're using your lap top primarily for myspace then I'd go with a Mac because it's practically virus proof.

I think it's worth it.
1) Macs NEVER get viruses. 10% of people own macs 90% own pc, every hacker would like to go for the 90%(statistic my be out of date due to mac ownership increase) I never had my mac crash. if there is a problem go to finder/app./utilities/disc utility -it will scan for problems, tell you what they are and fix them.
2)macs are easy you hardly ever have trouble trying to do something. u have a search that with search the whole computer (pc have this, but it is known to not work) if you have built in isight you can make your own picture and video, not to mention have video chats with the built in ichat av.
3)yes there is a difference!! Well now microsoft vista is getting some stuff that mac has. like widgets for instance. in mac it is easer to navigate and find what you want.
now about gaming-I find that mine works fine, good graphics, smooth gameplay. if your worried about the mouse get the mighty mouse,(2 buttons, a 360 deg. scroll, side buttons) Apple is comming out with new software that lets you run windos and mac on one computer. or you can get Fusion, which lets you run individual programs of windows in mac (or vice versa). So no problem with compatability.

Yes macs run much smoother than pc's, and they are much better for media and editing. macs never get viruses. the reason for that is, is that over 99% of viruses, adware, and spyware are programmed for pc's, not macs. the main difference between macs and pc's is the programming language.
