I recently added a UV light to my tank to strengthen my two turtles' shells. Whenever they bask under it, white blotches appear on their shells. When they go into the water, when they aren't basking directly under it, or when I turn the light off, the blotches eventually dissappear, only to come back when they bask under it again. What are these blotches? Are they normal?

This is a great website for turtle care. Make sure you are using a UVB light, don't be fulled by "full spectrum" lights made for plants, etc. And is needs to be within 12 inches of the basking spot.
