Now i hate peta they're juss so annoying, but i wonder everybody is shunning vick for treatin dogs like this, but peta has provided much proof that the beef and poultry we eat is put under much similiar circumstances (given hormones, electricuted, necks snapped, drowned in cold water) now i'm a fan of meat and by no means am i saying eating meat it wrong, but does PETA actually have a point... and should we really start asking questions bout the meat industry like we are mike vick????

no matter if you are making a joke or not... I think that cruelty to animals is terrible... and yes that includes pumping them full of steroids or antibiotics. drowning them, slitting their throats... or any number of other atrocities conducted by the meat industry.

PETA is completely wrong about this incident, and I'm going to prove it right here. Basically what PETA is saying is that the NFL needs to add care toward animals to the NFL code of conduct. What? Now, I'm sure football players are not the only ones who mistreat animals on a daily basis, but is PETA appealing to the government to make hurting animals illegal? Didn't think so. And what does any of this have to do with the NFL anyway? If the rest of America doesn't have to suffer for what some dude did to a bunch of dogs, why should it be any different for some football players? For more on PETA's being wrong, go to: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=grill. Read the article and check out the hate mail sent from PETA as a result, and then the response to it.

Ok the whole deal with the way they are slaughtering animals is very cruel and done to sorta cut costs, but EVERYONE must remember these animals are MASS produced for this purpose, as cruel as that may sound, if we weren't eating them the would not be here in these numbers.

Do you think there would be fields of veggies if they were not mass produced. They would exist sure, but here and there.

I don't agree with it all, but I do know this, pit bulls are not bred for food, the are domesticated to be companions and aides to man. In no way they should have to be pit against each other for entertainment, even cockfighting is outlawed here for the same purpose and, yes, we eat roosters (capons). At least that much should be considered. We don't eat pit bulls they more or less are there to help us (provide companionship).

Cows, pigs and chickens are not companions, they are food. This is harsh, and I saw the videos and read the stories. But this is a fact. We are not killing cows, chickens and pigs for entertainment, but for food. PETA would best be on point if they protested cockfights and pitbull fights or any sort of animal cruelty that is for entertainment. Yet I understand their protest if animals are not raised properly for our consumption.

You would even assume that the workers themselves, would take care because they too would be consumers, but they figure they will shop where this product is not sold and still they end up with the same kind of meat treated and harvested in the same slip shod way.

But it is the USDA that should be held accountable for that. I feel the ranchers should raise our food products with the utmost care. I mean I'm glad I saw what I saw. But when the product is in the pack in the store I can't determine if this cow was killed humanely or not. At the end of it all, if I'm going to eat meat the only way I could tell if something is wrong is if it tastes bad. So we should question the USDA and the meat industry as to the proper handling of product which we must EAT, OUR CHILDREN MUST EAT.

We should question Vick too as to why would he do a thing to such an animal that is here to be his companion, not his meal. Big difference really. Whether you like it or not there is a difference. Hell if he ate the dogs afterward at least you could say it wasn't a waste. Just a point I'm making.

Bottom line PETA is right to point out what they have, but to say don't eat meat is not the answer, to instill reform and better regulation is what needs to be done and as in so many things, OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO BE PUT IN CHECK BY THE PEOPLE WHO IT IS IN PLACE TO REPRESENT AND PROTECT.... all of us.

If we think it is up to someone else we are mistaken. I have seen the power that a letter to your congressman can do. It will get answered at all costs. But one letter gets pacified, imagine what a million will do?? They couldn't pacify a million people silently. We can effect change, we only have to do it.

Some people here are saying that an animal slaughter gone awry only happens rarely, "1/1000th" of all slaughters is one guess.

I find it interesting - how many dogs are put into a fighting ring, and yet we get mad about one person who does it. It is illegal to commit acts of cruelty against animals period. Yes some processing plants are up to date, and run a tight ship. But others are behind the times and need to be updated.

The PETA boycott against fast food places like McD's, BK, Wendy's got them to update to using a harmless gas to slaughter chickens. Can this be implemented in houses for larger animals?

We use these animals for food, they give their lives for us, can't we insist on a humane method for killing them?

Trust me I am not pro-PETA, although I do love my dogs.

Edit: Sorry but, Blue Sea how many inspectors do you think there are? I have studies the food industry for years, I can tell you that they are not full time in any slaughterhouse.

PETA takes things to the extreme if it helps their agenda. I'm willing to meet them halfway...I'll only eat animals that are vegitarians. But, I feel putting animals into a ring to fight to the death is barbaric. Vick knew it was illegal and now he'll be doing a couple of years in the big house.

And I'm sure Vick got in shape eating meat too. Not only that, but Vick made his career out of throwing... get this... dead cow skin! Think about what that poor cow would've thought, had someone told him that he'd be skinned and Vick would use his skin to throw interceptions all the time. And he even put his feet inside dead cow skin to run around in, and put more skin around his waist so his pants wouldn't fall down when he got sacked all the time.

I can't even explain how strongly against the mistreatment of animals I am. Who gave man the right to torture these creatures that are just as much alive as we are. Why must we take our intelligence to a level of cruelty? All creatures, humans alike are given one opportunity to have a happy life. These animals are not given that chance. The only life they have is one that is abuse from humans. Humans are ruining the world. Earth could be a happy place where we all live in harmony and are not wasteful but our power makes us ignorant to morals that we should have.

Kudos to you for bringing it up. So many people are blissfully unaware of how shockingly cruel animals raised for food are treated. I certainly had no clue, but went vegetarian after learning the truth. Animals are raised in deplorable conditions, fed loads of unhealthy, unnatural feed, pumped full of steroids, growth hormones, and antibiotics to counter the many illnesses they get in confinement, then put through horrible, inhumane slaughter. Most people just grab what they think is a good looking steak, neatly wrapped in a package, and give little thought to what the animal went through so it could end up on their dinner table. Though I think what Vick did is shocking and cruel, you are most certainly on target when you say its no worse than what the meat industry puts millions of animals through on a daily basis-and the government not only ENDORSES it, but SUBSIDIZES it as well! Perhaps Vick should use this as a defense, which would bring to light the shocking truth about meat. I am giving your question a star.
